Who We Are
Baton Corporation is the development company behind pump.fun, the dominant memecoin launchpad on Solana, processing $750M+ in daily trading volume.
Over the last 2 years, pump.fun generated (+950M+ in revenue with a team of fewer than 100 people.
We operate at real scale. The systems we build are used by hundreds of thousands of users, and the changes we ship reach production daily—sometimes within hours.
Location: Full-time, in-person — London (Primary)
Base Compensation: $250,000–$300,000 USD + equal equity & tokens
Total Compensation: ≈$400,000-$450,000 USD
How We Work
- We ship to production every day
- We keep bureaucracy low and ownership high
- Engineers own features end-to-end
- Decisions are data-driven and guided by experimentation
What You'll Build
As a Blockchain Payments Engineer, you'll design and scale the core fintech/crypto services that power seamless fiat ↔ crypto flows, real-time risk decisions, and rock-solid financial records. You'll work on systems that handle massive transaction volume under real-world constraints, requiring correctness, performance, and reliability at enterprise scale.
You will:
- Own payment orchestration for bank rails and cards (incl. Apple Pay/Google Pay) with idempotent, fault-tolerant APIs and webhook processing.
- Integrate third-party providers (e.g., Plaid/TrueLayer/Tink for bank connectivity; Stripe/Checkout.com/Adyen for cards; Chainalysis/TRM for on-chain risk; a Travel Rule network) behind clean, reliable interfaces.
- Build a real-time risk engine (<300ms) combining rules + ML scores, device signals, sanctions/KYC hits, payment intelligence, and blockchain analytics to drive GREEN/AMBER/RED outcomes.
- Implement KYC/AML primitives (CIP/CDD, sanctions/PEP screening, Travel Rule data plumbing, audit-ready decision journaling) in close partnership with Compliance.
- Ship a double-entry ledger and reconciliation jobs that tie together processors, bank statements, and on-chain balances with daily break detection and automated remediation.
- Deliver crypto to user wallets safely and fast (e.g., USDC/SOL), managing hot-wallet flow, transaction creation, confirmations, and operational safeguards.
- Build Solana programs and on-chain infrastructure as needed.
- Raise the bar on reliability: SLOs, circuit breakers, retries/backoffs, dead-letter queues, shadow traffic, and canary releases for high-risk flows.
- Instrument everything with traces/metrics/logs, build internal ops & compliance dashboards, and participate in production on-call for a 24/7 system.
Who You Are
This is a role for engineers with a startup mindset—people who take initiative, move fast, and are comfortable making high-impact technical decisions without layers of approval.
- Rust expert — strong production experience building high-performance, mission-critical systems. Deep understanding of systems programming fundamentals.
- Distributed systems thinker — you understand consensus, consistency models, fault tolerance, and how to design systems that scale.
- Payments or fintech background — experience with high-throughput transaction processing, ledgers, or financial infrastructure.
- Database fundamentals — deep knowledge of transactions, indexing, query optimization, caching strategies, and event streaming patterns.
- Event-driven architecture — comfortable with async patterns, message queues, Sagas, and exactly-once semantics.
- Security-first mindset — key management, secrets hygiene, least privilege, and auditability are second nature.
- Ownership-driven — bias toward action, responsibility, and shipping. Comfortable operating in ambiguity.
Nice to Have (Signal Boosters)
- Deep Rust ecosystem experience and contributions to open-source Rust projects.
- Performance optimization — profiling, reducing allocations, lock-free data structures.
- Platform engineering experience.
- Payments domain knowledge — card networks, bank rails, chargebacks, open banking.
- Risk/fraud systems — rule engines, feature stores, device fingerprinting.
- Compliance infrastructure — sanctions screening, KYC/AML workflows, audit trails.
- Crypto/blockchain experience — on-chain programs, wallet infrastructure, stablecoin flows.
- Accounting fundamentals — double-entry ledgers, reconciliation, regulatory reporting.
- Cloud infrastructure, containerization, and observability.
