Founding Backend Engineer (Rust)

Location: London (on-site, full-time)

Compensation: Up to £225,000 base + equity/token upside

Overview

We are partnering with a well-funded early-stage company building a fully decentralized perpetuals exchange based on a CLOB, deployed on an EVM-compatible chain.

This is a founding / principal-level backend role with direct ownership of system architecture, performance, and reliability. You will design the backend systems connecting web and mobile clients to blockchain infrastructure.

Prior blockchain experience is helpful but not required.

What You’ll Do

Architect and own high-performance backend systems in Rust
Design for low latency, scalability, and reliability across the stack
Own end-to-end system performance and critical infrastructure
Integrate external data sources and blockchain indexing systems
Mentor engineers and drive engineering best practices

What We’re Looking For

8+ years of backend engineering experience, including senior or lead roles
2+ years of production Rust experience
Strong distributed systems and performance engineering fundamentals
Experience building and operating secure systems at scale
Comfortable working in ambiguous, early-stage environments

Nice to Have

Startup or trading systems background
Experience with EVM, DeFi, or exchange infrastructure
